Okay, so I mostly hang out with other nerds, specifically guy-nerds. I prefer hanging out with guys because they're way more straighforward than girls tend to be, so it's easy to know that they mean something they've said.
Anyway, so, you all know I broke up with my boyfriend of two years a couple of months ago (for this, we'll call him Bob). We're part of a group that calls itself the Nerd Herd, and I'm the only female member. So, I was dating Bob while being friends with the other guys. Not a problem. They're all pretty fun to hang out with in different ways, and they've never creeped or hit on me.
I'm in AP Physics this year with two of the members of the Nerd Herd. Let's call them Larry and Ted. Larry is insane. He's just, like, he never matured emotionally past the third grade -- but he's awesome to hang out with, and really funny. Ted has a reputation of being an online creeper, but since I don't do AIM or Facebook or MySpace, I can neither confirm nor deny this reputation. Anyway, Larry and Ted tease me every day, in the, "Yeah, you're our friend and you're short and easy to propel down hallways at high speeds and you make funny noises if we poke you" kind of way. I don't mind (admittedly, I do get a rush out of the "propelled down hallways at high speeds" part) that.
However, I'm starting to think Ted might be interested in me beyond that capacity. He sits behind me, and is the perpetrator of most of the poking. Sometimes he'll draw on my back with the non-ink-or-graphite end of a writing utensil, which is kind of funny (although, it does get a tad awkward if I shudder involuntarily as opposed to making funny noises), and he'll drop bits of paper in my hair and stuff like that. But when Larry's getting a little too crazy, Ted will immediately stop him. And he has offered hugs on several occasions where Larry has flung me in circles or gone too fast. I like hugs, so I accept.
The thing is, today, we were in Gym (they're both in my Gym class too), waiting for Larry to finish failing at serving a tennis ball (and making, of course, the appropriate "ha-ha, you lost your balls" jokes), and Ted brings his face really close to mine (we were sitting up against the wall) and asks if I felt awkward (I didn't). I told him that, given that it's him and Larry, I just sort of accept that they're human males and are going to do stupid stuff. We made a joke of the whole occurrence.
And, prior to that, in Physics, I think I might have been (accidentally!) flirting with him. He dragged my purse back away from me with his foot, and so I ask him to give it back, he refuses, I tilt my head and smile my most evil smile, and he looks back at me and have an intense staredown for a while, and then he relents. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if not for Larry taking my backpack and hiding it in the middle of this "confrontation," because when I got my bag back, he mentioned something about "staring lovingly into each others' eyes" and Ted then refused to wait for us to be ready to go to Gym.
So, now, yeah, I are much confused. Halp?
