It's three a.m. and I have fanfiction for the masses.

Okay, so I have an unhealthy fondness for Amanda, the UnSub from the Criminal Minds episode "Conflicted."  She's beautiful in a twisted, brutal way, and Jackson Rathbone plays her so damn well.  I also love the way she and Reid interact.  I can totally see an unhealthy co-dependence growing between them, and that is beyond fascinating subject ( Read more... )

lauren, fanfic, tragedy, fandom, criminal minds, amanda jackson, reidhurt, go mad from the revelation, angst, spencer reid, character study, you've left me speechless

Wonderfully written. <3 I don't normally ship Reid/Amanda, but this is so well done that I couldn't help myself this once. You do such a great job in their dynamic with one another, it's simply astounding.

Great work.

Aww, thanks. I love how fucked-up they are together. She depends on him to remind her there's still a world outside those walls, and he needs her so he can pretend that he can save Adam the way he couldn't save Tobias.

Also, when Amanda's in Adam's clothes and she's looking up at Reid in the police station -- hnngh, she's totally eyefucking him.

I have to watch it again. Forgotten how amazing it is.

ahhhhhh this is fabulous. I confess I had started something vaguely along these lines except far more romantic and self-indulgent, but you have said everything I wanted to say.

I really like your style, not to mention your Reid. truly excellent.

Why thank you! I love writing Reid; he has a voice rather similar to my own, when it comes to speaking and long, stream-of-consciousness babble, so he's comfortable for me to write.

Amanda will be making an appearance in my current in-progress, yet-to-be-posted AU where everybody's in a steampunk version of the 1890s, and the team goes to London to stop Jack the Ripper. She's Reid's psycho ex girlfriend. She's still biologically male, but she pushed down Adam a long time before meeting Reid. She outs him to the team after following him to London. It's kind of a hilarious idea, but...in 1890s England, homosexuality's still illegal, so it will prove to be at least a little bit awkward.

*shrugs* I ship Holmes/Watson; I will manage.

that sounds very exciting! I look forward to reading it.

I, too, ship Holmes/Watson, though I have yet to produce or consume any fanworks for the ship. one of these days.

just reread this piece and i seriously don't understand why it doesn't have way more comments. I may not have read a ton of CM fic yet, but I've read enough to know that fic this solidly in character and emotionally evocative does not lie thick upon the ground. I particularly like the power-play that goes on, with Amanda pressing all of Reid's buttons that she can find and Reid wavering in some instances and holding his ground in others. lovely.

I'm fascinated by Amanda as well (Jackson Rathbone is one of the most talented young actors alive!), and I LOVE how you wrote this. You captured both of their characters perfectly, and romance free. (I especially appreciate that part.) And I love how you had Amanda constantly seeing bits of Adam in Reid.

Thanks! There's just something about her...I can totally get how she can lure in her victims.

I think Amanda can see the parallels between them, and I think Reid can see himself in them, too, along with Tobias Hankel, and that's why he keeps going back. In some twisted way, saving Adam is saving himself.
