do you believe in a hierarchy of love (eros, philia, agape) and how does each variety of love play out in your own life?

Wow, that's a really philosophical question. Reminds me of what I used to think about when I was in college before my mind broke :) My knowledge of the hierarchy mostly comes from reading Deus Caritas Est by Pope Benedict, and I didn't fully understand where he was going. I think that there is definitely a hierarchy, and that each one has a part to play (with eros, of course, being problematic and having to come from a place of respect and mutuality in order to be positive). I don't know how I'd say that they play out in my life, I have family and friends but no real close friends or significant others so a lot of this might not even apply to me. Having moved back home where I have few friends I feel cut off a lot from such feelings. I can understand agape I think through my relationship with my mom, and I know that I've felt philia because of my experiences with service organizations and with just watching the news and seeing how people suffer.

Sorry I couldn't come up with a better answer than that.
