Vampire Loves by Joann Sfar

What is it about France and comics at the moment?  Everything originating from France seems to be brilliant nowadays (see my reviews of David B.'s Epileptic and Marjane Satrapi's Persepolis)*.  Joann Sfar (who, contrary to his first name, is a guy), originate from Paris and has this wonderful new book out.

You should buy comics in the original language and teach yourself foreign tongues that way. I hear it works.

Its works sort of. This visual cues of the images help with the figuring out words. Also the more compact story (less text) mean that less needs to be translated before you understand the concepts. However... the more complicated adult stories that I read will be harder to translate than Marvel/DC action comics.

But its worth a shot (if you care, I already have a dozen or so french comics in the digital format). Also, the most famous person to associate with this comment is Umberto Eco, who claims that he learned english from 60's american comics.
