The crab effect MAY be made possible if you cut the raw franks with your crab cutter then boil until done. The claws will curl.

I had a children's cookbook which gave instructions like this for big frank octopi.

I did! My most recent bento feature the crabs this way. An anonymous tipper told me to stick the raw dogs in the freezer for 20 minutes before cutting, and to coat the cutter with a little oil to lessen the chance of losing a claw.
