He simply did what had to be done ... I think so...isn't this all about chosing what battles you are willing to fight, even if you deplore fighting?

Yeah, I think that's part of it. But it also means, sometimes, even if it isn't a battle you would chose, you need to fight it anyway. It's more about choosing the necessary fights to fight, even if you deplore fighting and don't want to fight that specific fight.
