Getting into gear

I'm starting to feel like myself again having been laid low by the lurgy. After being nearly adopted by a miniature dachshund named Cocoa at Fiesta Island, I serenaded Mr. 42 and winter712 with selections from my Tom Lehrer songbook, including but not limited to "Fight Fiercely, Harvard!" and "The Masochism Tango" while corn roasted and short ribs ( Read more... )

I'm a very big Samsung Galaxy fan and have had the S2, 3, and 4.

Large screens, easy to use, and fast internet.

I'm more than willing to answer any questions you have about them concerning specific features. (Also, you can TALK and it converts your words to text O_o)

I was learning toward the S4, actually for specifically the reasons you listed. How do you find the selection of apps? Is the OS intuitive/easy to learn?

There's a really great selection of apps. I don't think I've not found an app I was interested in. (Sidenote: I don't love the LJ app because the links don't let you zoom so the writing is miniscule and all comments go to the main thread.) But I do have a wide variety - ereaders, banking, games, music, a translator, alarms - that work wonderfully.

Full disclosure, I had the S2 and 3 first, so I had some idea of the OS already. But both those versions and the S4 I find very intuitive and easy to use.

Also, the camera is 13MP (!) compared to the the S3's 8MP (and my actual camera's 12MP) and the pixel count is out of this world.

Ooo, the high megapixel count on the camera is v. v. attractive. Thanks for the head's up about the LJ app, though, ditto the good quality of the app selection (oh my gosh, my phone could be an ereader! Pardon me while I squee!). I really appreciate your input!

I have a Galaxy Note II (with LectureNotes for - er - lecture notes), which I love.

Do you find the large size of the Note to be a benefit or a drawback? Does it affect the ease of typing?

It's a compromise, but it is easy to handle as a phone - I have a fold-back hard cover for it that has a flock interior surface, which makes it easy to grip even for my small hands. I can take notes with it, though it isn't an ideal size (but very discreet in meetings). I haven't tried the new one - it was already out when I got mine, but I couldn't afford it. 1000 times better than my old Blackberry.

Oh, and typing is taking a bit of getting used to, but the size helps. The stylus is usually quicker to use.
