They're comin' outta the walls!

Feb 28, 2006 11:22

This morning panda_pitt pointed out a huge spider on the wall of our hallway. It must have had a leg-span of at least 15cm. Then I noticed a slightly smaller one on the towel rail in the bathroom, and a small wolf spider on the window-sill.

What's with all the spiders one wonders? seraphs_folly tells me they represent destiny, they are weavers of fate, and reminds me ( Read more... )

It probably means you've got an infestation of Huntsmen. They've been popping up in ChCh recently, and have been established in bits of Auckland since the 1920's. The big ones usually answer to 'Bob'.

Yeah, you're probably right. They do look like that type. I'm wondering how the big bastards get inside though!

They teleport.

Actually, if it is a huntsman, I don't think they've been reported much from your part of the country before (you're in Wellington?) so it may be worth catching it and contacting some entomologists.

They could represent destiny, or they could represent a healthy growth over summer followed by trying to find somewhere warm and sheltered as the weather starts to get colder...

Yeah, OK, there's probably a perfectly rational explanation for it, I just enjoy a bit of mystery every know and then! :)

Did I mention I saw a falling star last night too?

mind you, my comment about growth and finding warmth could be read as a metaphor also ;-)

SPIDERS

All spiders except tarantulas are omens of good luck. The larger the spider, the bigger the rewards.

If you see a spider climbing the wall you will have your dearest wish come true.

If you see a spider spinning a web you will have an increase in your income due to hard work.

Well it definitely wasn't a tarantula, I know what they look like!
Seems like good luck then!

Though technically panda_pitt saw the biggest one on the wall first, so maybe he's getting the most luck?

Heh heh yeah, but I have an irrational hatred of them, and my first instinct is to kill... But I didn't mind so much cause they weren't anywhere near my personal space...

I'm not usually merciful if they are in my bathroom or bedroom though... I get *lots* of big spiders in my bathroom... They often curl up and die in my kitchen cabinet, it's like a spider graveyard sometimes (these ones die on there own accord though, not me being cruel).

I'm going to be doing something I've never done before. At least not quite like this anyway. And I find I'm not brave enough to be open and tell the world what it is.

Stop alluding to being gay and just tell us :-)

Spiders are cool. Man-eating spiders are not as cool.

I hate spiders! Gorram big one is still in the same place... He should be fine so long as he stays there though...

At least I'm not the first person whose first thought was along those lines! (Well, defintly sex based, given mundens) My 2nd thought was that he was getting a piecering or tattoo of some sort...
