Hmm, that makes sense. I guess for me, I'm more likely to break a longer fic up into smaller little sections so I can basically do this with each section, and then once I'm satisfied with the section, I move onto the next. (Then I just do one full listen-through of the whole thing at the end, to make sure nothing jumps out.)
Haha, yeah. When I first started doing the "edit later" approach, I kind of balked at the additional editing time, but you get used to it, and personally, I think, the benefits really outweigh the drawbacks. At least for me :)

However, I follow the long exalted Australian tradition of looking at work that could be improved, going to about 3/4 of the way there and then saying, "eh, that'll do".
With editing-as-you-go, it should be that you only move on once you're confident that it sounds good. But, it's not taking into account other factors like voice quality, pace and state of tiredness...which is why I shove in music breaks ;) Much easier to mask different takes when they're not directly after each other!
Also, that icon is AWESOME. I love your graphics!

And the music breaks thing totally makes sense ;)
(Also, thanks! One day, I will clean up my graphics journal and start posting there again, but in the meantime, all of my icons made by me are totally snaggable!)
