Theories
*Anna is working with Uriel. She all but convinces Castiel that there isn’t a God giving them order anymore right before Cas goes to find out what happened with Alistair. Uriel talks about how God has turned His back and doesn’t care what they’re doing before trying to convince Castiel to join him. Lucifer is the demons’ version of God, remember? It would explain why Anna was there and killed Uriel. She could take his place now, heading up the rogue angels and sabotaging the cause from within. Her cryptic “there’s still me” comment at the end made me think that she’s looking to be in charge, especially since it was preceded by “there’s no God.” Could she have taken Uriel’s place now, and is just using his death to get closer to Cas… and, by extension, Dean?
*Uriel said that only an angel can kill another angel, and Cas seemed surprised by this. He had been hunting a demon down as the culprit, after all. Now people are wondering how that’s possible, what with Cas’ earlier line about how six of his brothers died in 4.02. Did angels kill them?
Possibly, yes. According to lore, the angels that Fell from Grace were cast into Hell. Azazel was one of these angels. So was Lucifer. They’re demons now. It could be possible that the demons who had killed angels n the battlefield were once angels themselves. After all, Alistair plainly stated that he didn’t know how to kill an angel, just send them back to Heaven. So only an angel - even a Fallen angel - can kill an angel.
*This hit me in church today. "Take my blood and drink from it." I know it's all... symbolic in the Christian sense, but the image of Sam sucking on Ruby flooded my brain and I gasped. Because I know there must be something there. I just don't know what it is.
*The angels haven’t been to Earth in 2,000 years. Why that long? Was it simply because they were stalking Jesus (much like they are now stalking Dean?), or was there something much more dire happening.
The first Seal was broken when a righteous man shed blood in Hell. There have got to be more righteous men in Hell than just Dean. In all of eternity, he’s the first? Really? The first one to break in all that time?
Except all he really had to do was shed blood. That doesn’t necessarily constitute breaking.
Christian tradition says that after Christ died on the cross, he descended into Hell to save the souls of the good people who had died before His birth. While in Hell, Jesus had to do battle with Satan himself, defeating and imprisoning the Fallen angel.
Who’s to say a little blood wasn’t shed? The first Seal was broken, but the demons were a little preoccupied, what with the emptying of their home and the defeat of their master. By the time they finally noticed what had happened, those angels had already fixed things (because I assume they have a way to reset these locks, instead of just defending them until someone finally gets around to killing Lilith and every demon/angel who’s backing her).
~And there’s a thought. There must be some way to reset them once it’s all said and done, because it would be in bad taste to stop Lilith after 65 Seals have been broken, only to have someone come along 200 years later and pick that last lock. Unfortunate for all the world, because I’m sure the angels would have moved on out by then.
*cough*
I mean, all will be explained in time…
