My mother said, "you need to go back to church.  College skewed you too much," to me.

Damn that hippie, liberal arts agenda that taught me not all Muslims are terrorists (that's seriously our issue now).  Damn it to Hell with that sympathetic Devil guy.  I'mma go to church and learn about love and understanding.

My family is so weird.

I don't have a problem with church. It was the whole "college messed you up, go to church and get some perspective" thing. I'm a religion major. At a private Presbyterian college. My grandma still thinks that's gonna make me an Atheist (though I'm not sure how).

They actually think that I worship Satan because I've been doing research on demons, angels, and the Devil and have my own opinions about things.

Ew. Reminds me of what I used to get from my mom back in the day, only it was different because she didn't go to church either... she was just a really adamant Christian who would read me passages from these devotionals she'd get even though I asked her not to. And then when she asked me why, I'd repeatedly tell her because I thought it was crazy to live a life according to the standards of someone who probably doesn't even exist because you can't ever prove it... in which case she'd say, "You believe in God." And I'd say, "No, I don't." And she'd just say, "Yes you do," and that'd be the end of the story. Even though no, I clearly don't :P And at the very least if I did? And he's sat by and watched all these people suffer and die for nothing? Yeah, he's not a guy I'd like to put any faith in or praise ( ... )

I do believe in God. Funny thing is, I have a friend who's Agnostic (so she believes in something that is not organized religion) and my parents are uneasy about her. They've never met her, but they think she's a bad influence. Because she believes in something, but doesn't have to go to a special building every weekend to hear about that something. She just knows it's out there.

I have a problem (I've discovered this past year) with intolerance for religious reasons. My mom's side of the family is against homosexuality because the Bible says so. My great-aunt hates Muslims because, apparently, the Qur'an says that they should violently kill people who don't believe what they do. They don't believe in a God, just violence and brutality in the name of Allah (which is when I facepalmed). Real religions were only violent in the past, and now preach love (unless you're different in any way ( ... )

I swear, since dealing with them I have to suppress a kneejerk "ew, get it off me" reaction when the subject of Christianity comes up. And I feel bad because I know not all religious types are like that.
