Apparently this story got lost on the way to andrastewhite's mailbox, so she asked me to go ahead and post it myself. So here ya go!

Author: astrogirl2

Recipient: ultrapsychobrat

Rating/Warnings: Contains bad language and some sexual innuendo. Because it's Jack. The US movie ratings board would doubtless give this an R for a couple of instances of the Dreaded F-Word, but I really ( Read more... )

Oh, that's good. You zeroed in on the most angsty episode of Trek, and it intersects so well not only with the Torchwood mission statement, but with the general "life sucks" attitude of Torchwood. I really liked how you have Jack here, ranging from disillusioned to multitasking. And the Spock+Kirk vibe, "that kind of loyalty", yes.

Thanks! I admit to getting halfway through writing this one and thinking, "What the heck am I doing? This episode is a classic, and I'm just shoving some extraneous character into the middle of it for no good reason! How is that going to accomplish anything remotely worthwhile?" But it did sort of end up seeming rather fitting somehow, or so I very much hoped, anyway.

And I'm much happier, all in all, with this, my second attempt to write Jack, than with my long-ago first attempt. Of course, there's a lot more there to work with now.

I can understand the panic, I would have worried too. But I think this works because it doesn't feel gratuitous, because it feels more like pulling the Trek characters into a Torchwood episode, rather than shoving Jack into the middle of a Trek episode, probably because of the strong Jack PoV you have here.

This story made me sad and wonderfully happy all at the same time. Oh, Jack, with his flirting.

Astro, that was marvelous! Excellent Jack, spot-on Spock, with the tiniest hint of Kirk for spice. Soup date! LOL The whole thing was excellent. Brava!

Thanks! You know, for as much TOS as I've watched in my lifetime, and for all that I pretty much grew up with Spock in my head, I was still pretty worried about getting his voice right.

That was beautiful (and it's rare indeed that I say that about a fanfic). Well structured and the character voices spot on.

Yay, thank you! I wasn't remotely sure whether it was going to work at all while I was writing it, so that's wonderfully good to hear. :)

That was superb!

"Twenty-third, huh? I've only been there once, but it seemed like a fun time. Lots of optimism, lots of really short skirts.

LOL! Strangely like the 1960s, in fact. :)
