Ask, and ye shall recieve.

Alec doesn't come into the inn often -- it creeps him out -- but occasionally there's a few things he can pickpocket and hock later, which is actually pretty useful. So he'll make a five minute sweep, pocket whatever he can find, and then move on, more or less.

Occasionally, he'll pay attention to the arrival room, but usually it's not anybody worth his time. This time though, the guy seems ... too nice about the whole thing, which has him a lot more curious than he should be. And well, the guy did say please.

He makes his way over to the door, before pulling it open and flashing him a smile. "How ya doin'?" he says, before gesturing for him to exit. "Welcome to Baedal."

Steve steps out into the corridor, quickly glancing around and making sure the area's safe. He glances at the man who let him out, and he offers a smile, taking off his helmet.

"Thank you. Baedal, huh? Don't suppose you could tell me why I'm here and who's responsible?"

His tone seems easygoing enough but his eyes are alert. And, well. The red-white-and-blue uniform and the helmet tucked under his arm couldn't scream soldier any louder if they had a bullhorn.

Oh, Alec got that. He got that loud and clear. Something in him straightened, and he shrugs. "Sorry, soldier. Not so clear on the why, or the who for that matter. All the answers we have are in that pamphlet."

His tone shifts easily from that of a street kid to that of a soldier. It's instinct, more than anything else, but he thinks that the guy might be comfortable with something a little more familiar.

"So we haven't got a lot." That's all right. He's used to that.

"I'm in the inn right now, is that right?"

Alec nods as he turns and starts to lead the way out. "Yup. They'll give you free room and board for two weeks, but most people bail sooner and try to find another place to stay. It's kind of creepy, living in a kidnapping inn."

"You don't say. At least they give you that much."

He falls into step beside Alec. "I'm Captain Steve Rogers, by the way."

"Alec McDowell," he says with a nod. "Nice to meet you, Captain."

He pauses as he turns to look him over. "Though I don't think you're my military." He eyeballs him for a moment, before turning to look at his helmet. "I'd say there's at least a couple decades between us."

Steve nods. "It's possible. Before I was in this room, I was back home--well, where I belong. I was on a plane. It was the tenth of February, 1945."

Alec lets out a low whistle before nodding. "Yeah, that'd be more than a couple. I'm from 2020." Which, despite his love for World War II tactics training when he was at Manticore, he's going to leave it at that. No use prodding at the guy when he has just gotten to the city.

"2020. Gosh." So the city is grabbing people from all over. Variety, he supposes.

"You been here in the city real long?"

He shrugs. "Couple of months. Other people have been here longer. There are some people who have been here for generations."

He turns and gives the other man a bit of a smirk. "Guess it depends on how much they like you."

"How much they like me?" Steve is utterly confused. "What do you mean by that?"

"Well, there're twelve deities that I think have most of the control of the city," Alec explains. "They don't show their faces all that often, but I'm pretty sure that they're the ones who brought us here, and we won't go home until they say so."

Steve frowns. "Do you know why? Have they said? Any of it--why we're here, why us, why we can't go home?"

"Nope," he says with a dry smirk. "In my experience, they mostly just pop in when they need our help with something in the city, and then pop out when we're finished."

Steve considers this. Maybe that's why they're here. "I guess we need to know if they want or need us here. That might help us figure things out."
