So I just started the online dating thing. I've had no way to meet new people with any regularity, so I took my brother's advice and joined OKCupid. So far I just feel creepy. It's the equivalent of looking in strange girls's rooms at night, deciding if I like the posters on their wall, then knocking on their window and waving with a hopeful smile ( Read more... )

What I hate about Okcupid is the junk mail. There always letting me know who my latest "matches" are, but it's never any girls. (I'm Bi, seeking other Bi people!) So I always get weirdo guys and usually 35 and older. I don't take dating sites very seriously (which is why my photo is of me in one of my zombie get ups.) So yeah, maybe hitting a few clubs, find some new hobbies that others enjoy and meeting new people that way may feel a little less creepy. Dating online is so 2001 in my opinion. :P

Gross. You seem to find like minded people at the clubs you frequent, I'm sure you'll be macking it in no time. If you aren't already.

Very amused by description of online dating...very amused indeed.

I highly recommend joining clubs. Joining clubs is a very good idea.

I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member. Or dating service for that matter. You should come to the next Drum and Dance. We will confer this weekend

As a lady, it was a lot easier. I could just sit around and wait for guys to contact me. However, most of them were freaking weirdos and/or perverts. So it's easier and yet harder to find a guy who's actually a good person. I did find Eric thanks to OKCupid though :).

His advice would probably be to notice something in a girl's profile that you find interesting and politely inquire about it. It's the least creepy, but also shows some good initiative.

Thanks, I'll try that technique.

People on there are expecting to be contacted so it's not weird at all. You just be like "hey, you seem cool, wanna get coffee/hang out in a public place/whatever"

I did that a couple times, with zero responses. While not bad in theory, I suspect many other men are sending that exact same message.
