a little bit sideways | found poetry (charlie sheen)

So...this is my first attempt at Found Poetry, but there's something so lyrical and tempting about all of Charlie Sheen's recent interviews. Other than adding/removing various forms of punctuation, and rearranging/mixing lines, this is all from Sheen's various interviews in the last week or so, as well as his letter ( Read more... )

I kept seeing excerpts from his interviews, and 'top 10 lines' lists about them, and while a lot of them are hilarious taken out of context, he has an amazing way with words. The "here nobody panics and nobody dies" cinched it, and I spent 2 hours pouring over transcripts and listening to interviews, and then when I actually put it together I was listening to Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain", and I'm pretty sure it was that and being depressed about watching Sheen self-destruct on television that made it turn out like this.

Overall, it was fun to do, although if I do it again, I'll probably choose a less depressing source material. I'm glad you liked it! =)

I've been torn between uncontrollable laughter and suppressing tears throughout this whole ordeal. On the one hand, the quotes are hilarious, especially when you hear random tidbits read on the radio/TV and also when considered from the POV that this has all been clever ploy to get media attention and business deals. On the other hand, I can't really find it in me to buy that theory, which means we've been watching/listening to a man have a complete emotional breakdown; self-destructing before our very eyes. When I think about it from that perspective, I find the entire thing to be very sad. So, I've been switching back and forth between amusement and pity (and leaning towards the latter, because I can't help but feel like the "business ploy" idea is just too far-fetched). /rambling ( ... )

Ugh, yes, I know exactly what you mean about everything regarding Charlie Sheen. I completely agree.

Found poetry is actually really fun. It's like...somehow there's another story in there, something more meta, and if you can reassemble things into the right order, you can find it. Kind of like a jigsaw puzzle or something? There's a certain flow to what he says, though, this lyricism and rhythm of words that was almost heady, and that's really why I gave it a try.

I love working with the construction, the physicality of words and line breaks and punctuation, too, so that was fun to play with that, find out what should go where, what should be highlighted and how. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try one day, it's really interesting, although be prepared to lose a couple of hours ;)

And thank you! I'm glad you thought it worked ♥

It's extremely interesting, I think. Though, seriously, "a couple of hours" would be such an extreme understatement for me. I swear, if I tried it, I'd probably forget to eat for days. o___o
