as for your essay, I'd really like to be able to give an informed opinion but I have no experience whatsoever with this "write essays for the university you'd like to be in" thing. around here all you need is a high enough grade, so. =/ but that aside, it sounds pretty good. the way you end it is... interesting XD

I don't think it sounds like a love poem?? like, at all. it's just... a pretty detailed exposition? and for the love of god, DO NOT quote manga, unless it's something so obscure no one will recognize it. but seriously. DON''T. official-ness stuff. it's a thing. don't mix it up.

DOES IT SOUND FORMAL THOUGH i keep thinking i should take out contractions. and they wanted crap in detail and i spent two hours poring over the curriculum outline and the staff and crap and i wanted to know if it looked like i'd done the homework. it wouldn't have been obscure at all sob

God but I've been worried about sounding suck-uppy. Only when I wrote another essay and showed it to my Japanese teacher, he said honesty and forthrightness isn't a characteristic the Japanese people find appealing as a general rule. And I know what you mean about formal lab reports, I just don't know if I'm supposed to try and show personality as well, or just state facts as clearly as possible
