As for antivirus/antimalware stuff, I use a combo of Avast! and MalwareBytes. Avast! gives you the ability to kill a connection in progress or that's been paused if it's been flagged as dangerous. MalwareBytes is a nifty little scanner that looks for, well, malware and other things. Avast doesn't hog CPU or take FOREVEEER like AVG does.
