My mind.

..I am having a weird thought.
Parent's name their children sometimes the most horrendous names - that the kids are stuck with for life.
Yet, naming them is like naming a pet.
"THERE! I claim you! You're mine...SUCKER".

Currently, in my head. This seems wrong.
I know I let my cats choose their names....

THIS! SO MUCH THIS!

Because, I hate to say it, a lot of parents don't give a shit about the kid. To many of them a kid is just thought of as a really "cool" pet. I think for a lot of new parents it takes awhile for the idea to sink in that they are raising a whole other human (if it ever sinks in at all)... not just a "baybeeeee". Ya I'm cynical but I agree with you on this.

Actually I had a teacher in HS who was having a kid. Him and his wife decided not to name her until she "came out" and they had the chance to meet her. My mom had a different idea, that was just as honest and well thought out. She thought it was unfair to the kid to be brought into the world without a name/identity(?), an idea I kind of agree with too. But I guess also if you're the woman, you can probably get a good idea of who the kid is, as it does live inside your for the first 9 months :)
