What really makes the AvP movie so damned intolerable for me is that they do such absolutely halfassed job with a concept that is just riff with oppourtunity for awesome monster action. And they also choose to ignore the simple concept that worked for every other Alien vs. Predator product that came out before hand: Aliens vs. Predators with Space Marines caught in the middle. Messing that up should be like @#$%ing up a two-car funeral but they keep finding ways.
After watching this film I have to say in the first film's defense, at least they found an unusual/surreal environment to set the film in. Antarctica may not be outer space, but at least it's not small town Colorado!
And I suppose you do kinda need humans to get the Aliens going and set up the fight, but I gotta agree that a futuristic story with space marines in the middle is the only true way to go.
God, though, at least the first film was fun. I can't honestly say I actually enjoyed this one at any point. And I was going in with an open mind!
