Pfft. We all have rough days, but it is not a universal truth that gay men live painful lives. At least, not more painful than anyone else's. Some places, yes that is true-- but it's not the "being gay," that does it. It's the "you're gay and I don't like gays," that does it. The main problem with being ANYthing different than the majority is the reaction of others. If Epstein could get over his issues with gays he would take one step toward making other people's lives less painful. Not to even mention that with a name like his, chances are good his own people suffer by virtue of being Jewish. Would he be similarly saddened if his children grew up to stay within Jewish observance, because then they might suffer?
argh.

So, Patrick, what do you see in this article? I'm curious what made you decide to post it. Does it express how you feel? Did you post it just to "stir the pot"? Or . . . ?

It was one of those weird coincidences... I was reading a magazine and they mentioned, "that homophobic 1970 article published in Harpers Magazine." Then a different book talked about the consequences of the article: after being constantly refused a published rebuttal by the editor Willie Morris, a group of gay men staged a very successful sit-in. They brought coffee and donuts to the Harper's office, and spoke to all the staff ( ... )
