Chapter 6

Badge of Love Chap.6

It’s been two days now since that magical, memorable, amazing and truly lovely dinner date that Officer Jin had with Kazu but still the euphoria that he feels about it doesn’t fade away still.

He is really intoxicated with that guy.

How was it that in just a short time, he truly feels this deep for that person, that loveable young guy…

A boy at that!

He had previous relationships with the opposite sex, he loves women in fact the other half of his deciding factor why he wanted to be a policeman is that because before he thought that men in authority adds more potential for babe-bait, but that changed when he got into the Academy, his mind completely change and he just loves to protect anyone that needs protecting, men, women, young, old, girl or boy…

Specially THAT boy, whom his very smile that Officer Jin remembers now warms his heart and automatically adds a smile on his face. He can still remember how the soft curls of his long hair falls back at his nape and that silky feel into it and or how his eyes changes colors depending on the mood that he feels, those are all still embedded into his memory.

The last words that Kazu mentioned were equally embedded on his head…

“Alright, you have to meet my grandmother and ask my hand from her and promise her to take care of me!”

How did he respond to that, now that he recalls that night, he cannot fully remember how he responded to that younger mans declaration. As he rakes his head of memory, he knows that he smiled and nodded and gave vague answers, but did he promise anything?

He envisioned himself to bring his family to do this asking of hand in marriage with a girl and not with a boy. He doesn’t have any idea how his family will react to this, he knows that his younger sister will surely fall in love with the idea, probably his mom will be accepting of this as she was always been his supporter and with his mom’s caring character she will try to love Kazu, but just thinking about his dad gave him goose bumps coz for sure he will be disowned, his father as a retired government official that he was with his straightness, Jin really thinks that if he will not be disowned he will be killed.

“What have I gotten myself into” complained Jin

The possibility of being disowned or maybe killed looks very unappealing to him but remembering the softness of Kazu’s body, his wonderful smell and the pounding of his heartbeat while holding on to that younger guy is more overpowering  than anything else.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Did he ask too much?

Was he out of line?

Will he ever see him again?

Did I scare him?

What was I thinking?

Did I blink when saying that?

Was I smiling like a fool all that time?

Those were just a few of the questions that are now running at Kazu’s mind after their dinner date two days ago. He doesn’t know where neither that question nor that idea came from, but what he knows is that Officer Jin should meet his mama, the most important person in his life should meet this person that makes his mind skips a beat and his heart flutters.

He knows for sure that his mama will love Officer Jin; she will love him just as much as she will loves his paintings, his lavenders, his long hair, his dog Ran-chan (whom he carries now while doing all these spacing), his baggy shorts, his love for baseball and everything else. His mama at earliest learned that he was a different kind of person, he doesn’t conform with the normal, ever since he can remember his mama was always been very supportive of his idiosyncrasies.

There was actually a time before during his 3rd grade that he just loves wearing skirts going to school, at first his mama was against it and always scolds him to change his skirts into pants on which he will comply but packing that skirt and changing only once he is at school. His mama was often being called in his school guidance office for his teachers are all complaining about his clothes preference but gradually his mama accepted it and tried her hardest to explain to him why he should not wear that in the school but allowed him only when they are at home.

He had a lot of times in the past that he was laughed at, bullied by and got into fights with coz of his uniqueness in living his life and his mama was always been there to defend him and love him even more.

So telling her that this guy, this Officer Jin makes his heart skips a beat and his head in the clouds will only be accepting of that fact as a normal thing for him.

That is why he loves his mama so much.

“Mama, I am going out for a little while” shouted Kame ruffling the head of his dog while putting down Ran-chan that sped off running to where mama is coz he knows that at this time of the day, his mama will be busy tendering her small crops at their mini backyard.

“I will be back before lunch time, I just need to buy some supplies for my stuffs, please lock up” dashed out by Kame

He needed to relax from all this questions swirling around his head and finds that buying his paints and other painting materials calms him and makes his brain focused back on his upcoming project and not just about those broad shoulders that he felt and or those long prominent nose that he loves and lastly those luscious lips that he desires to kiss, nibbles and taste with.

Sigh.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Officer Junno, please take charge of area Zone A-Block C, I will take Block D” said Officer Jin, as they were ordered by Senior Officer Ueda to patrol the neighborhood for there was a report of a street robbery in the nearby district, so just to be sure that their district will be mugging free, all officers are spread out to patrol the area.

“Hai, Officer Jin, see you later then” agreed Officer Junno

“Please be careful then” piqued Officer Jin

For now Jin decided to put off the wandering thoughts that he has in his mind, as this is a potentially dangerous patrolling so he has to have his head straight without any distractions, and surely that younger guy is a big distractions for him.

Riding his patrol car, he slowly circles the area of Block D, making sure to stop at places that he feels the need for more thorough inspections. He really loves this place, when he graduated from the Academy some of his father’s connections wanted to hire him for police duties in other prefecture but he refused as growing up in this area he feels that he owes this place so much, so he turned them down and just serve where he was originally.

The green trees lining on the street, with the neatness of the district with occasional people either walking or running by makes the place really ideal for raising a family. He grew up in a good home, with his mom always at the house tendering and taking care of their needs, and his father always been a good provider for them. He wanted that same thing, he wants to be like his dad - going to a regular job and coming home in the embrace of his wife with the smell of their dinner wafting in the air and four kids either doing home work or playing together, thinking about it tugs something at his heart.

For he cannot believe it that the picture that his mind is conjuring up for his perfect family includes the face of Kazu for his wife and his 2 daughters have the same face of their mother and his 2 sons has his. On his mind, his wife is wearing her green colored apron with her hair falling just right on her shoulders and on her arms she carries their youngest child, the cutest baby girl that looks so much like the person carrying her.

And the vision warms his heart.

He wants this kind of happiness.

He longs for this.

He is getting distracted again. Just a mere thought of Kazu send his mind wandering around and this is dangerous, he needed some fresh Sendai air. Parking his patrol car on the curb and making sure that it will not cause any danger, he locked his car and decided to have a walking patrol of the area, he noticed that when he is walking his mind can focus more.

He has been walking for thirty minutes now and he is nearing a nearby park when he noticed that there’s a soft cry like whimper of a dog and being a dog lover himself (has a 3 yrs old Beagle named Beagle-chan), he tries hard to locate where the crying is coming from deciding that the dog must be in danger that needs saving.

He found the dog, a very small brown and white Dachshund with his right leg pinned in between two big stones. Jin hurried his footstep to where the dog is semi sitting semi lying down with the constant whimpering and crying, the god looks really pitiful and hurt.

“Heya boy, I know you’re hurt, can I help you there?” cooed Jin as he doesn’t know if the dog is domestic or not, he takes all precautions so he won’t get bitten

“What’s your name, are you from this area, where is your owner?” Jin softly asks making his voice as gentle as he can not to struck any fear or panic to the hurting dog

“Do you have any collar so we can see your address?” Jin stated while reaching and brushing the coat of the dog, while checking for that collar, and found no dog collar

As there was no collar attached to the dog, Jin carefully tried to wedge free the foot of the dog while still brushing and cooing it with gentle words to gain the trust of the dog, and all those time the dog was just looking down and limp probably from tiredness. When all of a sudden the dog raised his head and looked directly into Jin’s eyes and to his surprised the dog reminded him of the same pair of brown eyes that once looked at him into that same emotions and color.

The dog had the same eye color as Kazu! He even resembles the younger boy with that pitiful lost eyed puppy kind of look!

He has to get his head straight; he needs to stop associating that dazzling guy in all and everything that he looks at this is very dangerous indeed. When he finally got him out of the stones pinning him, he gently lifts up the dog to his arms and to his amazement the dog just lay comfortably at his chest as if this is the most natural thing in the world and just tucked his head at the crock of his neck (just like what Kazu did when he took him out of the jail).

He is having a Kazu breakdown!

Shaking his head to dispel the weird images that appear at his head, Jin needs to make sure that the dog did not suffer any serious injury. In closer inspection the bone on the leg doesn’t seem to be broken, though there’s a few scratches and swelling but that is a good thing it means there’s no broken bone in it. The dog is really very sweet at now the breathing pattern of the dog is even probably with the comfort that he knew that Jin is there to protect him now.

Looking around the surroundings of the park, Jin was trying to figure out at what direction did the dog came from. He saw a few residential buildings nearby even a school but he was not sure if the dog is from that side. He decided to wait for a few more minutes before finally deciding to walk back to his patrol car and just apply the bandage and put a soothing ointment to the wounds of the dog when out of nowhere he heard a loud voice and an older woman appeared from nowhere, wearing the brightest neon green hat and equally colorful dress.

“RAN-CHAN!!!” grandmother shouted

“Ran-chan!!!”

Jin instantly knows that this might be the owner of the dog waived a greeting to the approaching Oba-chan and made a deep bow of respect

“Anou, mother is this your dog?” asked Jin while trying to show the sleeping dog in his hands

“Ahhh, you found him Officer, thank you!” with a deep sigh of relief the Oba-chan tried to get the dog from the arms of the officer but the dog seems to be still in pain as it wringed out a cry of pain while in the process of transfer

“Oh my little baby, what happened to him Officer?” with tears in the eyes the Oba-chan cannot hide the fears for his dog

“I saw him with his leg pinned in between those two big stones” pointed Jin

“My poor baby” gushed the grandmother

“Should we bring him to the hospital?” grandmother asked

“I think no need for that as I examined no broken bones on it, we just need to put ointment and bandage it, which I have on my patrol car not too far from here, if you want we can do that there so you can bring him home” offered by Officer Jin

“Oh you are really very kind, Officer…”

“Akanishi Jin, mother” smiled Jin and looking directly at the face of the grandmother, he can sense that she has lived a good life with all those eye-smile wrinkles surrounding her eyes and she gives off this aura that she pampers and protects at the same time all her loved ones including this tiny sleeping dog in his hands

It was not the turn of the grandmother to look closer Jin in the face, what she is seeing is not half bad. She can sense that this guy is a good guy, and will do everything to protect his love ones and cares for them until he can, and the officer is not bad in the looks department too. In fact, grandmother thinks that if she were a few years younger she would have flirted with him and asked him for his number, when a small mischievous smile appear at the corner of her lips.

“Officer Jin, let us do the bandaging of my poor Ran-chan in my house, I live just nearby here, I have a good first aid kit in my house and I am afraid to do it myself, might as well be done by a professional” explained by the grandmother, while leading Jin towards his pointed patrol car

Handing the sleeping dog at the lap of his owner, Jin moved into the driver’s side and followed the direction of the grandmother leading to her house. Jin was amazed on how beautiful the simplicity of the house of the grandmother in the outside, the usual hanging flower pots and bricks and woods, but truth be told he was a little shocked when he went inside and was greeted with those same loud colors that Oba-chan is wearing.

It was as if rainbows originated in this house.

Going directly to the kitchen where a small dining table was situated near the back door, Oba-chan placed the sleeping dog in his bed and locates for the first aid kit. Jin was left looking around with how the decors of the place were mix and matched but they all fall perfectly in place. Removing his officers hat and sitting directly where the sleeping dog is located he saw that the collar that was missing was at the bed, he was thinking the dog might have played with it and it got loose and dropped in the sleeping basket.

“Here it is Officer Jin” returns grandmother and hands over the first aid kit

“Ah grandmother, just call me Jin as I think Ran-chan and I are a lot closer now” offered Jin and checking the first aid kit, he really was amazed that the kit contains a good quality material for first aid

“Oh and if that is so then please call me grandma-Rose as that is how my love ones calls me and as you have saved my baby Ran-chan you can call me that as well” replied grandma-Rose

“I was actually looking at his collar tag earlier and found none but found it here now” stated Jin while trying to put the collar back

“Jin-chan, leave it there at the basket, my Keiko doesn’t believe in putting collars to our precious Ran-chan, as per Keiko that is cruelty to Ran-chan” explained grandma-Rose

“But what if Ran-chan goes off again, at least people can bring him back again here with you” explained Jin expressing deep concern for the god’s safety

“Oh, don’t worry about that, Ran-chan is really just a house dog, he normally doesn’t go out without me of Keiko, but it’s actually all my fault” explained grandma-Rose

“I must have been busy tendering my crops this morning when my Keiko left the house and I forgot to lock up the door, you see when Ran-chan sees birds in the front yard he will chase and follow them, he probably followed a bird until the park and ends up in that position” with every words of grandma-Rose she slows down in saying as if the thought of losing the dog was really very gloomy for her

“I see, I understand that” Jin somehow agrees with this Keiko as he himself only puts collar tag in his Beagle-chan when they go out jogging or walking in the park

“Also Officer Jin, oh Jin-chan, please do not tell my Keiko what happened if per chance Keiko will ask you” smiled sheeply by grandma-Rose

Though Jin finds it odd request he agrees on it, thinking that the old woman might get into trouble when this Keiko finds out. Jin administered the first aid bandaging of the foot of the dog, all the while Ran-chan was deep in sleep, and the poor dog must be really tired after what had happened to him. He nipped the last bandage and was just putting the last adhesive pin to secure the bandage when grandma-Rose appeared with a tray of tea and scones.

“This is all I can offer for you Jin-chan for your help, please drink up and eat up, those are my Keiko’s favorite” smiled sweetly by grandma-Rose

“You should not have bother grandma-Rose, this is my job and I am just doing what is right” stated Jin honestly

As much as he would like to defer, Jin got to know that though grandma-Rose might be small and fragile looking but the old woman has a very persuasive personality and has steel like determination once she sets her thoughts into it she’ll get her way. In the end Jin ate all the scones and really fell in love with it just as what grandma-Rose said what was odd was that the tea that he drank was lavender in flavor and the smell was just like the fragrance of that younger guy which made him savor the tea even more.

All the while that Jin was there in the house of grandma-Rose, the old woman keeps on asking him questions, that Jin thought he felt like under interrogations;

How many are you in the family?

When did you graduated in the Academy?

Do you know how to cook?

What is your favorite color?

Are your parents will together?

How many girlfriends have you got?

Are you single, in a relationship or married?

Officer Jin being the gentleman that he is answered all those questions honestly and seeing the approving nods and smiles of the older woman made him think that he passed the interrogations with flying colors. Though what he did not expected was the next statement of grandma-Rose as that completely shook him off his happy-lavender-tea-drinking-time;

“Officer Jin, Jin-chan please go out and date my Keiko, you will never ask for anything more than my beloved Keiko!” with that said grandma-Rose bowed respectfully to Jin

Off-story

And on the other side of the district, a very unhappy guy was walking in the street with his hands full of painting materials that bead of perspirations travels down from his forehead to his cheeks and down to his neck. He is frustrated at his self for buying a lot of painting materials at the supply store and spending a big chunk of money only to find out after paying that what he got were all sorts of materials in red color.

Red paints in various shades and hues. Red paint brushes. Red stencils and canvasses. Red roller trays and grids. Red paint guides and brush combs.

It’s official now that he will not do any shopping of materials when he needs to relax, coz his mind goes wandering off now and he might be in trouble in the future if he will do this again.

While Kazu is in deep thoughts about this, there was a hooded guy that had been following him since the moment he stepped out of the store. The good was thinking that he got an easy pretty prey on his sight.
