I pretty much agree with all of this.

Those comments struck my attention when I read them, in much the same way as you've described here: "how dare you tell someone else what to do", the instruction/advice is facile and simple, and things let go when they are ready to let go - to try to do it on purpose leads to ignoring a thing and pretending it doesn't exist.
Good for you for not accepting these messages.
