Allen runs down the sidewalk haphazardly as he chases down the cat that ate Timcanpy again. He doesn't know where he is, but he usually doesn't and so this doesn't concern him as much as just how he's going to get Timcanpy back without harming the cat that ate him.

He turns a corner sharply and trips over a lovely flower box, landing atop the cat that ate his precious little Golem. He jumps up quickly and stares at the cat with not a little bit of fear. It looks positively vicious and, after having just coughed up its supposed 'snack', is more than ready to take out its anger on him.

He withholds a girly shriek as he runs for his life, vowing to never let his new kitten (found upon his arrival at this strange, strange university) get hungry enough to attack him. Or let it meet the local strays.

She heard Allen long before she saw him and stopped, mid-jump on the corner of a flower box on the other side of the walk. Turning on her toe she jumped off, her hat fluttering off her head to fall helplessly behind her as she brought her arms up in a protective stance, ready to perform a demon art to protect herself from.... wait. What? She could have sworn that something powerful was coming at her. Not to mention the noise. But... this boy and... a cat? Rukia's head drops and her shoulders stiffen as she reaches down and snatches the cat up from the ground before it can pass her on it's way after Allen. She holds it up, looking up glare at it.

"You shouldn't frighten those who are weaker spirited than you. It's not polite." The kitten, for it's part, looked rather frightened itself and she let out a defeated sigh before cradleing it in her arms and going at a steady walk to follow the boy. "Excuse me! Is this your cat?"

"Eh?"

Allen turns abruptly, surprised. Why wasn't the cat chasing him anymore? He blinks at the girl who is holding the angry cat in her arms and stares for a moment before shaking himself out of his stupor.

"Oh! Um... no, actually. It's not. It was rather angry at me for rescuing my Golem, you see?" He points at the gold ball perched upon his head. "Timcanpy likes to tease cats and oftentime gets eaten. I accidently fell on the poor thing and, well, it was angry and I really like this shirt and would prefer that it not be torn to shreds..."

He stares at the kitten suspiciously. "I could have sworn that that kitten was much, much larger when I first saw it."

She absently draws her fingers over the cat, soothing it before it goes after Allen or his golem... whatever that was. "Ah... well... perhaps Timcanpy-san shouldn't tease the cat and then he wouldn't be eaten." She smiled a bit at the boy as she continued to pet the cat, scratching behind the ears.

"What... are you?"

Allen looks over to where Rukia points but doesn't miss the sudden change in her demeanor. He desperately wants to ask her what's wrong but doesn't because they only just recently became acquainted and he doesn't want to meddle.

He settles on keeping the smile on his face sincere and follows her into the building and up to the front counter.

He sees and smells all of the food and his stomach gurgles loudly enough that a few of the other students sitting nearby stare at him strangely before chuckling. He blushes and tries to decide what he wants to eat, though he does keep a worried eye on Rukia.

Rukia stood there for a while, her hands clutching her purse... the kitten having escaped as they walked, and her knuckles turned a little pale as she turned and simply sat at one of the tables, not bothering to order anything. "Allen-san? Do you sometimes feel like you should know something and when you don't... it makes you feel... empty?" She knew it was an odd thing to ask but... she really didn't understand.

Allen ponders her question and knows his answer immediately. "Yes," he replies. He feels as though he should know why Mana died -- how he died -- and not knowing leaves him feeling like he's missing something important. Like there is only one piece left in a puzzle and it's gone missing.

"But... even though the empty feeling doesn't ever really go away, you can patch it up with other things, like family and loved ones."

He hopes this makes sense and that he doesn't sound as confused as he feels. Despite having just met her, Allen doesn't like seeing his new friend sad.

"Does that help any, Miss Rukia?"

She nodded, pulling something that looked like a candy bar from her purse and opening it to eat the chocolate bar filled with horrible things that she probably shouldn't be eating. But she did... with anger and annoyance at constantly being told to just let it go and move on. Still... Allen seemed to really understand. She looked up at him, trying her best to smile and... succeeding rather well. She was used to pretending. "Thank you, Allen-san."
