"It looks really nice, Linali," Hakkai stated with a warm smile. He's slipped up behind her while she was admiring her handy work. "I'm sure they'll enjoy it." Hakuryuu flapped his wings and gave a ~Kyuu!~ of appreciation as well. "The birthday boys not here yet?" he asked. Hakkai held two packages under his arm, both of them somewhat small.
With a small squeak, Linali jumped when she heard his voice, whirling around and clutching a hand to her chest. "H-Hakkai! When did you get here?" She took a moment to catch her breath before giving him a smile. "Thank you. I tried my best. And they don't know about it yet. Mai's going to grab them once the others show up." She reached out to pet Hakuryuu, smiling at the little dragon.
Hakkai just smiled and tucked his hands behind his back. "Just now," he answered. Hakuryuu leaned down to run his chin back and forth across Linali's hand. He was purring the entire time. Hakkai chuckled. "A glutton for attention, aren't you?" ~Kyuuu!~
Nervously, Mikuru smoothed her skirt as she made her way ungracefully across the sand. She was honestly pretty nervous about going to the party; she'd been a bit frightened of Atem before, but he'd managed to destroy a part of the boys' dorms almost a week ago, and that only made him more frightening in her mind. If Gray hadn't gone with her, she would never have worked up the courage to go at all. Speaking of... Mikuru flushed happily and gave him a bit of a smile. A moment later she had to look back down at her feet; sand was hard to walk on.
Gray returned the smile then reached out and took her hand. He'd known she'd been nervous. The fact that Atem scared her wasn't news to him. However, he was really happy that she'd agreed to come with him. It was going to make tonight so much more fun. Besides, he wanted to show her some ice fireworks. They were so much better than fire ones!
Linali waved at the two with her free hand, still petting Hakuryuu. "Hey you two! You're a little early, but welcome." That they were holding hands wasn't lost on her, but she decided not to comment.
Mikuru blushed when he took her hand, but looked up at him gratefully nonetheless. Then she heard Linali's voice and gave a slight wave at her and Hakkai, blushing more as she realized she was holding hands with him in front of someone. If they asked, what was she supposed to say?! Ohno. Keeping her panic under control, she gripped Gray's hand and moved with him towards the others.
Orlando wandered in, hanging back a bit from what seemed to be the center. He wasn't altogether sure if he really belonged in a gathering like this. But Yuugi was a nice kid, and Atem...he felt he understood a little.
Linali tilted her head and smiled at the newcomer, thinking she recognized him. "Hello. You're Orlando, right? It's nice to meet you in person." She looked over at the fire and examined it critically. "It's... not as big as anything Atem would have built, but I suppose it'll do." With a start, she realized she hadn't even introduced herself. "Oh! I'm Linali, that's Hakkai and Hakuryuu, and they're Gray and Mikuru." She pointed to each guest in turn, figuring he'd appreciate the introductions and not sure who knew who anymore.
Orlando smiled back. "Yeah. It's nice to meet you, too." The fire seemed pretty big for a real one, to him, but he figured she knew more about the subject.
"It's...good to get out and meet people in person." That probably sounded awkward, didn't it?
She gave him another kind smile and nodded. "I understand what you mean. I barely met anyone for weeks when I first arrived except over the computer. Being face to face is much better."
The Undertaker hadn't planned to come to the party. He still wasn't planning on staying. But when he'd gone to the bookstore to buy a few things that had been destroyed when his room had collapsed, he had seen something he thought Yuugi might like for his birthday.
Neither the spider-killers nor Yuugi were at the party yet, so it seemed safe to sneak in and leave his gift. He crept over to the gift table and placed the bag on it.
Linali felt a shiver creep up her spine and turned to see the Undertaker. Hadn't he said he wasn't going to show up? She moved to the table and gave him a smile. "You can stay if you'd like. No one would say anything." She still found him incredibly creepy, but she couldn't help but feel bad for the poor guy for the loss of his spiders.
The Undertaker shook his head. "I just came to make a ~delivery~." He nodded toward the bag on the table. He hadn't thought to label it or wrap it any more than the bookstore staff had done when he bought it. Yuugi wouldn't know who it was from, but the Undertaker thought it might be better that way. He didn't usually give such childish gifts, and Yuugi might be saddened that he did not receive a fine coffin like Conan or a headstone like the twins.
He bowed to Linali. "~Good luck~ with your party," he wished the girl, and turned to leave the way he'd come.
Anytime someone said the word "party," Tsuzuki was there. Party meant food, food meant sweets, and sweets meant Tsuzuki. What could be better. "Uhhahh! So pretty!" Tsuzuki cried out happily when he reached the beach. "Did you do this, Linali?!" This was only Tsuzuki's second time at a birthday party, and he was still getting used to the idea.
Linali turned at the sound of his voice and gave him a big smile. "Thanks, partner. I'm glad you like it!" She turned to examine the setup and the people slowly joining the party and was incredibly glad; she figured she'd screw this up majorly. "And I'm glad you're here too." Linali found herself wanting to ask him something, but wasn't sure if she should. If Mai or Riku were here it would have been better, but she figured Tsuzuki could help out. Blushing, she steeled her resolve and spoke. "Tsuzuki... Do I look okay?" She never really worried too much about appearance, but tonight was special and she wanted to look nice.
"I wouldn't miss good cookies!" He told her happily, giggling a little bit as he did. The shinigami was really excited about this party. He was a bit startled at her question though. "Huum?" he asked, tipping his head sideways in consideration. "You looked better a minute ago, Linali," he pointed out. He was still a little bit confused about why she was asking.
A minute... what? Embarrassed even more now, Linali turned back to face the fire and tried to get her blush under control. How dumb of her. "Ah.... Thanks, Tsuzuki." Looking around, she saw more people showing and smiled.
