He sounds like he was a decent guy. Someone who you could be yourself around is always good. It's probably a good thing that you guys didn't stay together since he seems confused and you acknowledge that he isn't what you needed. Hopefully, someday, you'll find someone that isn't as confused, but will allow you to be yourself like he did.
