Dear Yule Writer,

Hi! If it's your first yuletide, welcome to the party. If you've been here for years, we've probably seen each other around. I've participated in this fest since 2003, and if you're here to stalk me, feel free to visit my yuletide tag for previous requests, old gifts, and a long list of things I like ( Read more... )

How are the JLU portrayed in the comics? Any recommendations for good Aquagirl moments?

As far as Piano Man goes, that's a good choice. I like your interpretation of Paul, I had just assumed he wanted to marry a woman but was never able to make it work, but there could be another reason. As for the waitress, I thought her practicing politics could possibly be a way of saying "working on patrons and trying to get better tips".

It's a different take than what we kinda ran with in the fanfics. (I say "we" since it seemed like less than a dozen people who wrote about those characters ever.) There's a good backstory issue with her. I've had so many issues trying to purchase the digital feed of the comic that I gave up and rely on occasional scans. :P

The interpretation of the song literally just occurred to me a few months ago, and now it's a case of "can't unsee the slash." I'd used to assume the same thing. And now no. As for the waitress, I'd always pictured her as someone who saw herself as there temporarily, honing her talking skills because some day, she was going to Be Someone. (I have an ungodly amount of meta in my head about this song, going back decades. Srsly.)

Ugh, digital feed...I hear nothing but awfulness.

You could be right about the waitress. I'm kinda the same way with songs. I'm sure that since this is partially based on a true story, Billy Joel probably explained the whole thing somewhere.
