Week 2: Snowe

Jun 26, 2011 12:15

Subtle as always!
Last week with the Snowes, baby Eustacia was born and grew into toddlerhood; Lucy was working to max her mechanical skills; Thierry opened a produce stand; and Virginia got knocked up for a second time.

Let's get right to it, shall we?

Virginia goes into labor pretty quickly, leaving me almost no time to enjoy her cute new default base game pajamas (with sexy feet!) by le_plat_du_jour (thanks to dysnaenia for steering me toward them!).

It's a boy! Hello, Yves! I rolled genetics, but he still looks exactly like Thierry again. I suppose it could be mostly the eyes... But this may require them to have another baby just to see if we can get something different. Heads up, Virginia!

Baby dangler + toddler mat time!

What's wrong, Eustacia? Are you upset because Yves took your crib?

Oh, no-- you just don't want to learn your nursery rhyme! It's not Wim-level indignation, but then what is?

Business at the produce stand is going well. It's just a shame that they don't have more to sell, but everything in the greenhouse keeps dying for some reason, so there's only the first crop from their fruit trees. [I've decided playables will be allowed to buy useful things, like food, so the Snowes get a money order placed on their lot to signal the OK.]

Lucy's been working on this old junker that was left behind in the backyard when they moved in. Tinkering is her OTH, so as soon as community lots are unlocked, she'd like to open a garage where she can have some more space to work and maybe try building up a car herself.

As the winter wears on, Yves's baby days come to an end, and Eustacia welcomes him to toddler time.

Thierry is the family sim of the group, but Lucy and Virginia do their fair share of childrearing, too. There's a lot of toddler learning going on!

Huh. That's new? I don't recall ever seeing the two of them pay any particular attention to one another, but sure, why not.

Whaaat? Oh, girls. Why do I get the feeling Lucy is making an off-color joke about making a Gemma sandwich here?

Meanwhile, blissfully unaware of the hot talk going on in the kitchen, Thierry toils away in the greenhouse (replacing all the dead crops-- wtf? why have a greenhouse if everything is going to die anyway?).

And then it's time for Eustacia's birthday!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

She grows up with 10 Neat points (! takes after Virginia there, at least), 10 Nice points, 9 Active points, and only 1 Outgoing point and 3 Playful points. So a shy, serious little girl. She sounds like a high achiever.

With Mel Batavus being promoted to elementary school teacher, the children of Sainte-Margo no longer need to settle for home-schooling, and Eustacia gets picked up for her first day of classes. Her only classmate right now will be Penelope Batavus, but the Sweet kids will join them next week along with her little brother. Totally taking class photos when that happens.

Virginia's former studio completes its transformation into a kids' room, with her easel moving out to make room for Eustacia's new desk and bunk beds replacing the crib.

Virginia gets a visit from a magic genie and wishes for money (university fund!). She also gets Thierry a flower bench so he can start making new items for their now-depleted produce stand.

And the kids get a toy they can both use together.

The produce stand is popular even in the snow, though it seemed to pose something of a risk to all the customers. I don't know how the game works these things, but after a few days of having the stand open in the wintertime, everyone (even my playable sims) started showing up nearly frozen to death! After Tabitha collapsed like a block of ice one day, I ended up putting out a bunch of fireplaces and forcing people to go warm themselves because I was afraid someone was going to drop dead!

And then Amy Tang randomly wanders inside, in the middle of the day, with everyone awake and about. She doesn't even try to steal anything; she just slinks in, turns around, and walks back out. It's like she just doesn't want anyone to forget she's around now. Eustacia's like, "What are you doing in my house, lady?"

After taking up his new flower-arranging hobby, Thierry decides to try his hand at cooking, too. Despite a poor first performance, he seems to gain enthusiasm for cuisine.

And then he remembers that the kitchen is on fire. Luckily, the extinguisher is close at hand, and only the stove needs to be replaced.

Lucy watches this all from the other room and is totally stressed out by it. Since she's trying to max out 7 skills, she's been doing most of the family's cooking, and frankly, she's a little peeved that old genius-face there could've gotten them all killed just because he felt like playing chef one day. But it's nothing that a nice bubble bath can't wash away, and she's not one to hold a grudge.

At the end of the week, spring arrives, and everyone gets new clothes for the season.

Virginia finally bites the bullet and makes things official with Thierry, next to the spring flowers in the backyard. She'd never thought of herself as the marrying kind, but who knows; perhaps she's evolving.

And so ends week 2 for the Snowe household! Aside from some unexplained crop failure and the near death from hypothermia of half the town's population, it was a pretty easy, placidly pleasant week. Thanks again to pooklet for Virginia and Lucy, and alexpilgrim for Thierry.
