Had to run to the 99¢ Only to pick up a roasting pan this morning (the relatives work retail, so we did Turkey Day today) and I stopped to check out the Christmas DVDs. One of the titles on display? "Santa Claus Defeats the Aliens". Pia Zadora had top billing ( Read more... )

I found a cheap copy in the bargain bin at K-Mart a few years ago and it had the "Conquers" title. Hmm.

That is an old bait and switch ploy by bargain basement video companies to dodge any potential copyright problems, (especially on a title whose public domain status is murky) and/or sucker up a sale by people thinking it's a different movie altogether.

The title sequences are sometimes altered as well. Usually done cheap and obvious.

I'm still trying to figure out how a major motion picture like "Marooned" ended up as "Space Travelers"!

I saw that version at the 99 cent store too. I managed to find a $1 version that said "Conquers" from Target last year. :) I actually saw it before seeing the MSTed version. I enjoy both versions.

The legal status stuff may explain why in the episode we don't actually see the title at the beginning, someone has to say out loud what it is. I think it's the only movie to feature a "custume designer".
