Java Dog

I set out a little pot of Vietnamese coffee to drip while I puttered around, getting the dogs food, doing some dishes, making a trip to the compost heap. That was enough time for the coffee to drip through. Wilbur was hanging out in the kitchen, watching me. I said, "And now I can have my coffee!" and he smiled and wagged his tail. "You used ( Read more... )

lol @ Banzai not wanting any coffee. Wilbur is obviously a cultured dog of taste :)

Im glad you got Daisy to pipe down, but sad that her owners dont seem to be concerned about her welfare. That sucks.

I suspect the neighbors take better care of their dogs, by their standards, than dogs are cared for in the elders' country of origin. I doubt they'll spay or neuter the dogs, but the grandmother has apparently given some thought to getting them their shots. No action on that front so far.

I had to show the kids how to pet and cuddle their puppy. How fucked up is that?

WHAAAT?? That is *extremely* fucked up!! I cant understand how a child's first instinct isnt to love up on a baby critter, cuddle and face smoosh. But then, I was always one of those kids who loves animals, my Dad being a NPS Ranger for something like 30 years. He used to bring us home all sorts of little surprises when he walked in the door after work. There were salamanders, birds, once there was a teeeny baby bunny that he found while mowing the lawn, and another time he brought a huge thumping box with holes punched in it. That turned out to be a stunned great horned owl, which we got to go release in the woods right afterwards :)

I hope they get the dogs their shots. Are these neighbor kids the ones you abused with payment for poop scooping and dried apricots? har har...

The kids' elders (three generations live next door) appear to be treating the dogs as working dogs and not as pets, so that's how the kids are treating the dogs.

The part not about coffee is so sad!

BTW, thank you again, I really enjoyed spending time with you last week!

The mama dog can't relax enough to enjoy letting someone pet her bc she's constantly chained up and feels threatened which is understandable. The chain is a new development. They'd used rope to keep her tied up until about a month ago, and she was always chewing through it and running up and down the alley.

You're welcome any time. I love my zombie duck ; )

I <3 your dogs and they way you talk to them.

I'm pissed about your neighbor's dog. Poor Daisy. Poor puppy. Idiot people.

and my cats, although they still feel like foster kids since I didn't get them as kittens.

Friends of mine who've lived in South and Central America have horror stories about how dogs live down there. I think that by my neighbors' standards, they're treating their dogs like royalty, what with the daily food and water and not beating them and all.

I know the Dumb Friends league frowns on not providing adequate shelter, though the consistent food and water is good. If you asked them to come out and educate the family, would it help the dogs or hurt them? A friend of mine lived next door to a woman who had a puppy tied up on her porch with no water. I called DDFL for her, because she didn't want the neighbor mad at her. After the officer visited the neighbor and told her to give the poor dog water at least, she simply untied the dog and let it run away. So now I worry about people just giving up if they are giving information on what to do with their pets.

If you do call someone, tell them not to come by and talk to you afterwards. It isn't very anonymous when they come to your house to tell you what they found right after, and I have seen them do that before.

This. Our neighbor had her Husky puppie locked inside a tiny 2*4 fence area on the side of her house. It had food and water, but no shade, unless it crawled under part of the house. And it had to watch her two Shitzus run around the lawn all the time. Cue lots of barking, right outside my parents bathroom window.

We made a call, but were sure to have the officer follow us up not so obviously.
