I offered to let the neighbor kid come pick apples in my yard today.  He's 10 or 11 and a nice kid.  He asked, dead serious, if any of them were poison.  I looked around to see if anyone was listening and leaned in closer.  I said, "I don't think so, but I bet we could fix that if we did some googling for some poison recipes.  Who you want to give

Were the first apples crabapples as well? Or do you have actual, for-real apples in your yard?

I hear you about the whole "Fall" thing. When I was a kid back in La Junta, we had a crabapple tree in the back yard and three on the side. Man, when those apples started falling, and then fermenting on the ground, what a mess.

And guess who got the job of shoveling up all those half-rotting, mushy, fermenty-smelling apples....

We has TWO kind of apples!

Two crabapple trees and one regular apple tree with green apples that are really quite nice.

Sigh. I should probably start raking now before they ferment and go all grody. I didn't know they did that. I've never had a crabapple tree in my yard before. Thank you.

Yeah, get them as soon as possible. Because as big a pain as they would be to rake/shovel now, when they're mushy and squishy and slippery and smelly, they are twenty times worse to clean up.

Nifty that you have real apples, though! ;D
