AKICILJ question: Need a translation from Strine to 'Murrikan

I'm reading Pocket Apocalypse. Our heroes have arrived in Australia and are set-down to a meal of lamb stew, roasted root vegetables, and "soda bread". Is Australian-type soda bread pretty much the same as Irish-type soda bread, or is it closer to Southern American Biscuits, made with buttermilk and baking soda?

Here's the Wikipedia entry.

And here's a recipe from AllRecipies.

Finally, here's a recipe for Irish soda bread. They do seem a bit different.

The Wikipedia entry sounds like a close relative of tortillas and/or Native American flatbread.

The AllRecipes one is fairly similar to the Irish Soda Bread.

But all of these appear to be baked as a single loaf, rather than as a batch of smaller chunks of dough, as the biscuits I'm most familiar with are.

So that answers my basic question. Thanks.
