*getting up on the soap box*

so i was going to post earlier but now i have more information. so in the President's proposed budget there are 50 million dollar cuts to the Corporation for National Community Service.

as a result of this, David Eisner, CEO of the corporation is going to have to shut down the AmeriCorps *NCCC program.

the letter from David Eisner is here:

if you want updates and information from members check out the community

please, pass this on if you know anyone who would be interested in this information.

an online petition has been set up here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/mr5qv367/petition.html

so i went to fill it out. and i wasn't going to write anything in the comments box. and then my dedication to the program took over:

AmeriCorps *NCCC was one of the most important experiences in my life. It is an integral part of the community. Part of its purpose is to work in areas where there is a lack of community volunteers. The organization hopes to encourage people to volunteer in their own communities so that the community organizations do not have to depend on AmeriCorps *NCCC members to perform service. What will happen to all of the organizations who have yet to build a substantial volunteer base? What about the programs that are in remote areas that might never be able to accomplish their goals without AmeriCorps *NCCC? What about the sense of ownership that this program instills in its members, making it so they are more likely to volunteer in their own communities after they complete their term of service? It is for these reasons, among others, that we need to save AmeriCorps *NCCC!

i had to hurry up and hit approve signature because i kept thinking of more things to write about the program and i didnt want to get carried away.

i think everything can be summed up by the AmeriCorps *NCCC Mission and Pledge:

Mission: AmeriCorps *National Civilian Community Corps will strengthen communities and develop leaders through team-based national and community service.

Pledge: I will get things done for America -
to make our people safe, smarter and healthier.
I will bring Americans together to strengthen our communities.
Faced with apathy, I will take action.
Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.
Faced with adversity, I will persevere.
I will carry this commitment with me this year and beyond.
I am an AmeriCorps member, and I will get things done!

i am sad...

did the government thing that we wouldn't notice?

americorps, politics
