My husband just got back from Budapest. I think he's prolonging his jetlag as he got back last Saturday and is still "fatigued". Maybe he's sick? I know it's easier gaining those 6 hours back. I'm sure he was out of sorts for the whole week he was there and working a ton so who knows what's up ( Read more... )

Oooo, that sounds awesome!! It's hard to go wrong with Paris. I think the whole place must just be amazing.

We were only there for 2 days -- we need to go back! We stayed in Montmartre, which is awesome, and we mostly just walked down from there to the Ile de la Cite and Ile St Louis and then through Le Marais -- I was looking for smaller-scale older stuff, not so much les grands boulevards, though we saw some of that too. Everything is just gorgeous.

Thank you! Just looking up info on Montemarte lle de la Cite, St Louis is fascinating in and of itself...the art (Picasso as a starving artist at work) the history.
Are you and Poindexter going back anytime soon? It would be excellent to go on a real trip there someday...someday, hopefully. I'm glad I know one local because I'm told they love to show off their city.

We picked Montmartre because it's the kind of place we'd choose to live in if we moved to Paris, and because of the gluten free restaurant there. Even the most touristy parts have lots of food shops and other small-scale stores the locals use. The movie "Amélie" was filmed there. When you get off the main streets into the residential areas (like Rue Caulaincourt) it's just gorgeous. In the evenings people (mostly college-age, it looks like) gather below the steps of the Basilica and there's music playing and it's like a giant impromptu party and you can see out over the entire city from there ( ... )

My coworker said she had a hard time finding good food in Paris too.
Thank you so much for your perspective on Paris, Ms. Eve. Everything! I will have some time on my own too. I leave next week...
