Oh, gods above, another sewing project

Yesterday afternoon, Mom and I went to the thrift store and I found a yard of brown, sage green and steel blue/gray wool plaid for . . . fifty cents! It's nice stuff -- soft, a little stretchy, a little fuzzy. I think, having spent entirely too much time watching Mad Men, that it's from the late 50s/early 60s. You didn't actually ask, but for buttons, I'd go with the one on the very bottom of the right hand column. I like how warm the metal is.

And to answer a question you did ask. I am overly fond of the walking dress with the shawl collar, in the burgundy velvet. I can see a draped overskirt, perhaps, to make it a bit more refined steampunk than classical Natural Form.

*nods* I love those buttons. I originally bought them to attach sleeves to a Venetian at the shoulder, but the fabric was too busy and they got lost.

The burgundy velvet is growing on me, a lot. Mostly because if I use it, I won't have to buy anything but lining fabric. And maybe not even that, if I can find that sheet I lost.

I'm not sure what to do for a skirt yet. I should probably drape the pattern for the other bustle dress I want to make, rip off the yardage for that bodice from the velvet, and then use the rest for this skirt.

I also need to think about steampunking this. I was thinking via accessories -- ridiculous hat -- or by making a different (horrible print!) skirt.

Ohmigod, I'm so ramble-y tonight. Sorry to think out loud at you, Kate!

It's okay-- my husband is playing a video game and all I'm doing is being irrationally angry over the lack of decent LJ layouts.
