Bonnet: completely trimmed and ready to go

I finally finished my mid-nineteenth century bonnet. It's a mishmash of the middle decades when it comes to decoration, but I'd wear it to a Civil War reenactment and not feel like too much of a farb. Well, except for all the craft glue.

Thank you! I love it, too, and I'm really tempted to wear it out in public at the earliest opportunity. I think I'm going to have to be content with LJ, though, since it's snowing like crazy right now. Well, and the hat would probably be a little out of place at the grocery store.

Oooh, Jane Austen. Can I be Elizabeth Bennet? I know I look more like Anne Elliot right now, but I'm totally Lizzie at heart.

I've got like 70 percent of the 19th century covered in this hat. Who knew it would be so functional!

I absolutely adore the color choices. It really is pretty and...they had glue then, right? :-D So nothing wrong with that...

Thanks!

They had glue, but it certainly wasn't Aleene's Original Tacky Glue. Maybe this is why my parents won't let me have a horse . . .

I realize it's been awhile since you posted this, so perhaps you've solved the problem in the meantime, but I just came across your post in a search and thought I'd pass on a piece of possibly useful info.

In the mid-19th century it was standard practice to have TWO sets of bonnet ribbons: narrow cotton "utility ties" that were tied first and actually kept the thing in place, with a set of gorgeous (and probably slippery and fragile) silk ribbons as well to be tied over the utility ones.

Just thought that might help!
