I knew there was a proper name for that motif, but couldn't remember it and wasn't motivated enough to search it out. Thank you!

Do you know how Spanish ambassadors to England handled the whole not being able to hear mass, make confession, etc. thing while in England? Did the Pope grant them a dispensation or something along those lines?

I think you have two questions there; the Mass being said on English soil would have been incredibly unpopular just on the grounds that the English had been swinging that way since the break with the Church in the 1530s. 'Papistry' and 'idolatry' were two of the hate-words coined during that time ( ... )

That's why I LOVE it.

If I do end up making a Bella Nani dress with it, I'll probably sand it, use some gold foil on it, and fill in the black parts with some enamel paint. It won't be quite so Vegas-tastic.

I went looking on Google for more ship pins, and only found this one for a whopping $35. Eesh. That doesn't look like $35 worth of pin to me. I don't know why I couldn't find more, since this is pretty obviously a touristy, souvenir pin.
