New compy is a lot of work. I cannot even explain the amount of crazy-stupid time I have spent sitting in front of my computer, just clicking buttons. Yes, install this. No, don't install that. No, do not make this program launch on start. No, I don't need to install a toolbar in Firefox. Maddening.

As a long-term Word loather (bring back WordPerfect!) Open Office ain't bad. I particularly like the "Export Directly As PDF" function.

Jarte is very . . . spare. It's almost existential, really. So I think I will be trying Open Office, if only because I am accustomed to Word, since it's pretty much the only word processor that I've used since childhood. And I am not even joking about that.
