Public Nursing

I was prepared for something bad when I saw the title... instead I was surprised.
I had thought it was already a right for women in Toronto to breastfeed in public... I always did, and certainly plan to do it again with this one... hmmm....http://www.thestar.com/News/article/

news, breastfeeding

Its one of those odd things, we've had the right to do so according to the Charter, but because a store/restaurant is technically private property, they can have their own regulations regarding it. So it may be ok to breastfeed your child in a park or a community centre, but a local eatery could turn around and kick you out and be well within their rights--most don't have their heads that far up their asses though and don't try things like this, or they are too "in shock" as my mother-in-law used to tell me to bother to do anything.

I for one applaud anyone who does feed their child in public, a kid needs to eat when a kid needs to eat and breast is best after all!

That makes sense now. For me, it didn't take more then one trip to a stinky "breastfeeding stall" in the middle of summer in a public restroom, which was half way across the mall from where Quinn first started wailing that he was hungry to turn me off of most any embarrassment of breastfeeding in public.

I never had a person dare tell me to stop, I would have let them have it and I suppose they knew that... heh

I breastfed literally, anywhere.. restaurants, food courts, parks, in the middle of the baby section at Wal-Mart...anywhere except in front of my creepy in-laws ;) You know the size of my breasts - they don't exactly make it easy to be discrete either. I guess that's why I didn't realize that public establishments had the right to say no, cause they never told me!

I did however, make a point of applauding other women when I saw them feeding their little ones as well :)

I guess I'm a little bit "crunchy" as I've recently heard the term. Breastfeeding, co-sleeping, cloth diapering Momma here :)

As far as I knew Toronto and Canada had nothing to do with it.

I thought it was Ontario that changed it's laws permitting women to appear in public topless.

You still can't drag a dead horse through Toronto streets. (and many other archaic laws are still on the books)
