Let us mourn the loss of some science-fiction one-season-wonders that aren't Firefly. In chronological order:

Space: Above and Beyond (1995). Known as the "stay alive, I will find you!" show, this had the elements for great space drama: Humans fighting a strange alien race ("Chigs"), robots that have turned on humans ("The Silicates"), replicants ("

re: Dresden files - there was also plenty of existing source material (series of books) so it certainly wasn't cut short due to lack of episode ideas
I do actually miss that series a bit - primarily because of the far worse crap that SciFi channel decided to air instead :-P

Coach driver sounds better to me than patent office clerk... And I personally know some smart guys that had to work menial jobs just to get by for a while due to the language barrier upon emigrating...
