I hate this story and I especially hate the influence it has had on Superhero comics. But I liked your take on it.

Thanks. I know enough people who hate this story and all that has come of it to acknowledge its controversial status. For good or ill, DC made a very clear decision about how they wanted to tell their stories, and this was where it really got started. I imagine the pendulum will swing back at some point and restore the honorable, noble, better hero to the page one day....

My LiveJournal Review from four years ago is below. This story was dark, dangerous, and while I was sad it moved me away from the nostalgia of what comics *used* to be, it really, really made the most sense. What do you expect to happen if the bad guys really know what's going on? What do you think the Cops and Capes relationship would be? And really, the scene you hit, and I write on in detail below...what happens when being the best isn't enough to save those that really matter ( ... )

Good call on the quote - "Oracle, call Wally." That was an Oh, SHIT moment right there.... Man, I get knotted up just thinking about that scene.
