Remember how gleefully the US news anchors explained why Iraqis were smacking pictures of Saddam with their shoes back in aught-three? Yeah, not so funny now, is it?

Here's something funny - I was a little irked by this. I mean, he's an asshole, but he's *our* asshole. And I still do hold on to a little of the respect for the office, not necessarily the occupant.

And, really, that's impressive athletic reflexes he's got there.

It was a very good dodge, but if he had caught the shoe and thrown it back (see Big Trouble in Little China), I would have been immensely proud.

And I'm not irked at all. All you have to do is put yourself in the Iraqis' shoes for a minute. Here's the guy who is the public face, if not the architect, of the utter shittification of your country. He has never, not once, acknowledged the utter wreck he's made of things, and in a month he'll go home to Texas to write his memoirs about how grateful the Iraqi people should feel that he gave them this chance at Freedom, while you go to another funeral for a friend killed in a suicide bomb. Frankly, I think we should thank the guy for his remarkable self-restraint in only throwing his shoes....
