This is topic #5 for therealljidol - OPEN TOPIC. This means, of course, that I can talk about anything I want. This may be a good thing, or it may be a bad thing. We shall see....

A couple of months ago, I wrote an entry regarding my opinions on the God of the Bible and how he is not a god with whom I wish to be associated. I still think it was pretty good ( Read more... )

If I went to the airport and decided to join your cult, would I have to wear orange? It doesn't go with my skin tone! hahaha
Good and well thought out entry. Interesting exercise indeed.

Orange! Heavens, no. Just because you're in a cult doesn't mean you have to give up a sense of style. I prefer black in my wardrobe choices, but I'm open to other ideas....

Excellent! All you have to do is give me all your worldly possessions and you'll be right on the path to Enlightenment!

I've had similar thoughts but have never been able to put them so articulately on published media. You make some good points in here and others which need some serious thought. Well written!

I agree she did a bang up job of articulating some very complex ideas.

I am so forwarding this one to my roommate. She'll get it. A fabulous take on a hugely intense and yet overrated question. Definitely gets my vote!

Out of all the topics we could have chosen this week... there's more than one invented religion. *hangs head in shame*

And I think his was better than ours.

Well, to be fair - they're all invented, really. Come back in 2,000 years and see if there are pictures of me being prayed to and then we'll see how good it is. *smile*

You ought to be reading some Crowley - "There is no God but Man." There's a lot to that statement beyond the obvious.

In fact, I probably could put together an entire reading list if you were interested - a lot of occult theory would cover the kind of ideas you're bouncing about here. I also think that the fact that people come to these conclusions independently gives weight to there being some merit in them. The whole multiple incarnations at the same time is pretty straightforward if you understand the workings of the astral and John Dee during his work with the Enochian spirits apparently was told that there were no more souls walking the earth then than had been in the past, which does throw up some interesting questions.

Always interesting to read others' soul searching.

The Dee reference actually reminds me of a novel by Christopher Moore - "A Dirty Job" - in which there are, in fact, far fewer souls than there are people. The main character becomes a Merchant of Death, as he calls it, making sure the souls get to their next bodies. It's a fun read....
