I called the US Consulate in Osaka and talked to a nice young lady about options and information for the NOVA diaspora. She asked me for some basic information about my situation and circumstances, and offered to email me information on where I can turn for help. She said that the State Department had issued no official statement on the NOVA

I saw this talked about over on letsjapan.com, where those who really, really hate NOVA go to get together. It seems that amongst some of the English-speaking community here there is no sympathy for ex-NOVA teachers and a level of schadenfreude that borders on glee. The bit about being skilled workers, for example, gets a lot of laughs over there. Which is why I don't go to that site unless I absolutely have to....
