Ms. Geek is going Insane...

InsaneJournal, that is!

Considering the 1st Amendment issues going on at LJ, I am seriously thinking about migrating there. I suggest others do the same.

They will give you 100 userpics FOR FREE. This alone is worthwhile.

I am not sure when I will transition off of LJ, or if, but it is a possibility.

free, kewl, userpics

I admit I'm sorta out of touch when it comes to what's going on in LJ. What first amendment issues are going on right now? The only two that I remember from recent times is the whole pedophilia scare (LJ going wild deleting users/communities that aren't directly related to pedophilia, like fanfic), and the breast feeding images thing.

I'm basically talking about all the recent incidents, taken as a whole and as evidence of a trend towards speech restriction on LJ. I'm neither a pedophiliac nor someone who has an interest in breast feeding, but I am concerned about a slippery slope emerging.

Besides, 100 userpics for free. How cool is that?

I'm known as msgeek there too.

Fair enough, I suppose. I just hope that, if you decide to move away, that you'll check up on your humble LJ friends every once in a while... and maybe, dare I say it, even comment occasionally.

As far as LJ is concerned, I think they are learning. Six Apart and its founders are, I think, reasonable people, that just weren't used to (and couldn't prepare for) the openmindedness and diverse nature of the LJ community. None of their other products (Vox, TypePad, etc.) has quite the diverse user base as LJ. so I think it was (and still is) quite the learning experience for them. In particular, I think they know damn well that they crossed the line regarding the latest incident (the pedophilia thing), and I think they have learned from it. In any case I'm willing to give them more time, and the benefit of the doubt. Then again, I've been told that I can have the patience of a Saint at times. (note that I said "at times" - for example, at this very moment, I can't wait for AX to start, I want to be there NOWNOWNOWNOWNOWNOW!! :) )

I'll never abandon my LJ account completely. There are too many communities I participate in here. However, I might stop posting here on my personal LJ blog in favor of my IJ.

I hope AX goes OK. Please, if you can swing it, buy a copy of Megatokyo Vol. 5 for me and have Fred and Sarah sign it. Tell 'em hi for me.

I'm not happy I am going to miss AX, but I really and truly believe it's going to be a train wreck this year. Hope they prove me wrong...
