I had a question; as a supporter of Obama, what do you think of the fact that though Guantanamo is closing, other facilities like Bagram (and extraordinary rendition) look set to be continued under his administration?
I agree, Obama is not going far enough. I think there's still a hell of a lot of "battered spouse syndrome" Democrats need to work through before real progress is to be made. I personally would like to see the Senate Majority Leader deposed in favor of someone with more spine. The Dems are afraid that the Rethug minority will be able to label them as "soft on terrorism" if they get rid of all of Bush's nasty goodies

Gotta luuuv partisan politics. People around the world are suffering injustice and pain and terror? Nah, not interested; gotta thump Them Other Guys Across the Aisle. :/ Here's hoping that come the midterms, things change for the better.
I agree that Pakistan needs more attention, but too much negative pressure, and they'll be back with a military dictatorship. I don't remember Obama saying it in so many words, but he seems like he believes that international non-state terror can be fought with some sense of honour and decency (whether that survives the reality of the situation is another matter); subjecting the Pakistanis to another dictatorship just to get a 'firm' handle on things in that area is a price too high. More attention, yes, but with the realisation that the civilian government is having to play a dangerous balancing act.
We can fight the real enemy and we can do it the right
