Okay, I gotta ask. Were those guys with the instruments Hassidic Jews? Because there is no way even goths would wear black outfits in that kind of heat unless it was a religious duty.
No, they were dressed like undertakers. Or at least the stereotypical type, not the WWE type. And you would be surprised about goths from the San Fernando Valley...it is a point of pride to wear black even in the worst heat.
One note on the music...the whole thing was meant to be a Jazz funeral for the old, broken health care system, and those guys have been playing at Jazz funerals in San Francisco ever since the start of the AIDS epidemic. They also play Dixieland Jazz around town.
However, the camcorder mics picked up a few private conversations better than the music, so I had to wipe the soundtrack and put the old recording of "St. James' Infirmary" on there instead. I was looking for a recording with Cab Calloway doing it but other than take the track straight from the Fleischer Bros' Snow White Betty Boop short, I'd not be able to. And besides, I like that version I used fine.
If you listen close Spike Hughes takes a stand-up bass solo that sort of, kind of, reminds me of something Richie might do with his fretless in a situation like that. Yeah, it always comes back to Richie, doesn't it. Damn.
