I've been saying for a while that I needed to put up pictures comparing Sam sewing himself up in "Mystery Spot" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer," because there's a HUGE difference in how he reacted to the pain, and I think it shows how much an influence Dean (even a faux-Dean Ruby) made. Here, look:

Is this what you're getting at?

Sam in MS = numb and mechanical without Dean

Sam in IKWYDLS = feeling *something* (even physical pain) with Dean around

Pretty much, yeah. In MS, he'd shut off everything, and it was only when "Bobby" offered to be the sacrifice to find the Trickster that any kind of feeling got through at all.

I'm not sure if he was trying, in IKWYDLS, to get to that numbness again with the drinking, but the single-mindedness of trying to get Dean back was the same.

Oh, now, that is very interesting. Because in IKWYDLS, he does make those exact faces in That Scene with Ruby, once when he finally breaks, just before he kisses her, and again just before he hides his face in her shoulder.

I can figure out pretty much everything in that scene except when Ruby's pants come off. Unless those were her pants that landed in front of the fireplace. *G* I did not get the impression, though, that Sam lasted long enough to get her pants off. From the arm positioning, you can tell when Ruby unzips his pants, and then it looks like Sam is getting himself into position, but...

I suppose I'll just have to watch that scene again. For, you know, research purposes. Oh, the hardships I suffer for this fandom...!

Yeah, Sam is scary when he's numb. Makes him really unpredictable. I could see how that could push a few kink-buttons. *g*
