I'm thinking this mainly because what we see of Laura doesn't quite add up, at least to how I always read her history. I always thought she lost her father and her sisters earlier in life, years before her mother died. That she spent years taking care of her dying mother all by herself? The fact that her mother wasn't in that family portrait would suggest it may have been the other way around? This, this has been bugging me all day. I think that's a very interesting idea. I'll have to think about it a while until I can say more, but I think you might be on to something. (But knowing RDM, it'll probably be like nothing we expected or speculated or thought it would be.) *sigh* What I would give to have Laura and Bill get their happy ending.
The only on-screen (which means CANON) allusions we've ever had to Laura's past before the Fall was that her mother was ill for some time with cancer and we didn't really find out for sure until "Faith" that Laura was primary (and possible sole, but even that hasn't been confirmed onscreen) caretaker.
The stuff about her father and sisters wasn't confirmed as canon until last night. It was in the series bible and it was always out there as part of the backstory (meaning MM and RDM kept it in mind), but it was never even mentioned onscreen until last night.
I know a lot of people who were never all that domestic or happy-go-lucky as Kara seemed while Zak was in her life until they have a reason to be. Might have been Zak's good influence on her, which makes his death even more of a tragedy for her, because she seemed happier in that flashback than we've ever seen her in the series, even with Sam (as much as it breaks my heart to say it).
Sometimes it's difficult to seperate the fanon from the canon, my bad. But still there's something niggling at the back of my mind that there's more going on, guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm sure you're right about Kara too, I'm just reaching because I love these characters and I don't want this show to be over. That being said, I do have faith RDM will do right by them.
But maybe that's where the "all of this has happened before and will happen again" comes in? Guess we'll know this time next week and that fills me with both sadness and elation
That's what I got from it as well, he's trying to squirm his way out of doing something he doesn't want to do, but it's nothing * serious* Wonder if we'll find out what it is, so much ground to cover in just 2 more hours...
Now if this were Lost, I would agree with you, but BSG?
I do like your thinking, because boy, I would like some happiness in the ending.... but I think the chiron at the bottom 'Caprica City Before the Fall' seems pretty clear -- although, hey!!! maybe it means before the fall SEASON??
I do think you're right, though, that the scenes don't seem to add up.
Like, what's with Lee and the pigeon?? Super weird...
Let me take this opportunity to mention how much I love your fic. 'Beautiful in Her Armour' got me through the end of the hiatus...
But then again, if all of this has happened before and will happen again, isn't Caprica going to fall, again? I dunno, I just think there's more to it than meets the eye, but then again, that's par for the course with this show and it's what I'm going to miss most about it.
I love that you like Beautiful in her Armour, writing it is what got me through the hiatus as well
