Spike and the comics...

Feb 01, 2009 22:31

So, there’s been this great debate on whether or not Spike will return to Buffy via the s8 comics.  There’s been no mention of him (so far) in Aftermath, and it's possible he might get his own spin off, or he might end up on Buffy.  I don’t know what’s going to happen, nor will I predict what will.  I will say, however, what it is that I hope for ( Read more... )

Personally, Though I long for them to be together, I'd rather they be happy and apart then together and miserable and/or dead.
Bless you for saying that :D I agree--hoping for a happy ending in the Jossverse is pretty useless.

I'm content with quality fan fic. I just really don't trust Joss with this...I just can't.

I, really really liked you pointing this out to me. Now that I think of it in that context. I feel like a hypocrite now lol. One the one hand I am longing for spuffy interaction/romance/happy beginning. Then when I think about what is best for Spike keep him the hell away from season 8. I can't imagine them treating him fairly, or even half as well as AI group does. I could however see him being on an arc in season 8. Him already realized how differently Angel and his group treat him than the scoobies. I could see him being treated like crap, getting pissed helping, and then telling Buffy I love you, but I'm not whipped anymore, I got a taste of what its like to be actually cared about have a group of friends that have your back, hell even peaches has my back. I have to do whats right for me, and staying here, no I won't do it, I did it for years, all I got was my heart broken too many times to count and a dusty ending. I got my own life now. If there is an Apocalypse count me in, but otherwise I got an unlife to live, and for once, I ( ... )

I'm glad I was able to "turn" you, lol.

I really enjoyed your scenario. Unfortunately, I don't see it playing out that way (you know--making sense) if he ended up in the season 8 comic. Just another round of "kick the Spike" I imagine.

You are making me think and I don't like it much :) I haven't been reading the comics but aren't too fond of them from the bits and pieces I've gathered.

Why did I like S.6-7 of Buffy? Lots of good acting on JM's part. I liked the sex scenes, regardless of Buffy's feelings. They were hot, and I loved watching James. The drama and angst is why I'm a Spuffy fanfic shipper. I want the 'ship aspects righted and retconned and redone.

In S.5 of Angel, I never noticed the inclusion of Spike until you pointed it out just now. But I still think JM's talents were wasted for the most part. Other than a few poignant scenes, it was all the Wrinked Brow of Concern/Confusion, Eye rolling and Lifted Eyebrows, and Snark.

But yeah, wherever Spike can get the most love (the friendly kind) and props is where he should end up. That would never happen in the Buffy comics, I agree.

First, I love your icon.

Second, LMAO :D

I agree with the excellent acting on JM's part--he was brilliant in s6 and s7. But this isn't acting--this is comics, and for the character, I think it would be a regression and not a progression of him going back to the Buffy series. If this were a movie, I wouldn't care cause hey--JM on the big screen. But this is just comics--"canon" ones no less, and I just don't want it to happen.

I'm glad you've been pondering, lol :D

Hi here via Sueworld!

I don't want Spike to have anything to do with Dark Horse at all. I would rather he stayed with IDW, and Brian. I feel no love at Dark Horse for Spike the character, and think they would ruin him. While with IDW I feel the love, I feel they know what to do with Spike, and give him his due (well up till AtF).

I agree--a move to DH would simply drag him through the mud--mud that's chock full of poo--one way or another...

As a fan, I totally agree.

But when I look at the situation from a writer's POV, I can't help but think that it was Spike's outsider status that made him so attractive. People tend to root for the underdog.

I'm torn about the prospect of Spike on s8 comics. I know that I won't get what I want and I'm not sure I need what Joss thinks I need.

While I agree that his underdog status contributed to making him attractive to viewers, I don't think he has to go back and do it again--particularly with the Scoobies. At this juncture, I'd rather we travel the road less taken, you know what I mean? Especially since a great deal of Spike's expression was shown through the facial expressions, demeanor and gestures James gave him, and that is just lost entirely on a cartoon drawing.
