[There is a lot of rustling background noise, and when the camera turns on, it's slightly dark. Merry is huddled under her covers, smiling even though she looks a little tired. Two curses in one week can take a lot out of a little girl. She is staying in bed for the day, thank you very much.]I liked that last curse. I've always had private tutors, ( Read more... )

I suppose there are some ladies' organisations, though they aren't really the same as clubs, as far as that goes. So perhaps it isn't as much alike as I'd first thought. At least you managed to enjoy a curse--that's not a common thing at all.

Anyway, it was a peculiar weekend this past one, when everything goes mad for two days. So in that much chaos, it's no wonder you don't remember anything.

I can't imagine that you could change, Merry.

Really? Is that a bad thing?

Aunt Katina might disagree, but I certainly don't think it's a bad thing.

I did--very much so. Easily as much as I like you now.

You were quite grown up. I'd say you were at least twenty. And you weren't still living at home--so far as I could tell. Really, you had a very good reason not to be living at home anymore.

Ehh? Why not? I want to stay at the estate with you when I'm older.

I'm quite sure you came to visit me. It's just that you were married. So I would presume you were living with, well, your husband.

I told you I wasn't sure what you'd think of it when you heard it.

I know...but I never imagined myself married. Who was-- er, will be my husband?

Are you sure you really want to know? Isn't this the sort of thing girls are supposed to play games to guess at? Like putting a piece of wedding cake under your pillow to dream of your future husband and reading signs on melted candle wax and looking into mirrors at midnight and so on?

I wonder if I ought to tell you. Maybe you should guess.

Oh, I won't even remember it when we go back. If we ever go back. It might have been one of those alternate dimension things that Rudy and Huey are always talking about. Please tell me, Cain?

Before I do, I wonder if I should remind you first that, from time to time, people can and do change. And so do our opinions of them.

And I do think that Rudy and Huey may very well be on to something with their ideas. Especially in this case.

You're quite sure? And you haven't any guesses?
